Training and adoption: software that gets used

A rollout succeeds when people work differently, not when the licences are assigned. We run short sessions per role, walk the floor during the first weeks and then measure whether the usage still stands once we have gone.

Approach

Four things that make the difference

A one-day training for everyone at once is the format that sticks least, and the cheapest to buy.

  • Per role, not per packageA salesperson, an engineer and someone in admin use the same package differently. One training for everyone hits nobody precisely.
  • Short and repeatedThree half-hour sessions work better than one day. What goes wrong in between is exactly the material for the next session.
  • Someone on the floorFor the first weeks someone walks along answering questions as they arise, rather than in a ticket picked up the next day.
  • Measuring whether it staysAfter a few months we check whether the usage is still there. Without that measurement a rollout succeeds because nobody complains anymore.
How we work

How a programme runs

Three steps, and the first decides whether the rest is about anything.

Watch how work happens now

We walk along before we tell anyone anything. What the process is on paper and what actually happens almost always differ, and that difference is what the training has to be about.

Sessions per group

Short sessions with the people doing the same work, using their own files and their own examples.

Leave points of contact behind

We train a few people per department further, so a question finds an answer internally after we have gone.

What goes with this

Adoption belongs with a rollout and not after it. This is what it usually attaches to.

A rollout that sticks

Tell us what is being rolled out and how many people it concerns. You get a programme per role, with the number of sessions and a moment at which we measure whether it stayed.
