Till terminal and card reader on the counter of a shop with stocked shelves

POS hardware that also works on a Saturday

A till sits in the place where downtime costs most and explains worst. This page is about the equipment around it, and above all about who turns up when it does not work.

The parts

What a till set-up consists of

Four parts that can come from four suppliers. That is precisely the problem the moment one of them breaks.

  • The terminalA fixed till, an all-in-one or a tablet in a holder. The choice is about the space behind the counter and about whether staff walk around with it.
  • The receipt printer and the drawerUsually thermal, always in the place where it must not jam. It is driven through the till or straight over the network; that decides what happens when the till restarts.
  • The scannerBuilt into the counter or handheld. In retail, 2D is now the norm, because discount codes and tickets come from a phone screen.
  • The payment terminal and the connectionThe terminal comes from your payment provider; we make sure it has a connection that stays up and that is separated from the guest network. That last part is not a luxury but a requirement.
What we supply

The set-ups we build most

Four set-ups, from a single counter to a chain with branches.

Fixed till set-up

Terminal, receipt printer, drawer and fixed scanner, built and tested before the shop opens. For counters where the customer comes to the till.

Mobile till on a tablet

A business tablet in a holder with a cordless scanner and a mobile receipt printer. For hospitality and shops where the till goes to the customer.

Labelling and pricing in the shop

A desktop label printer for shelf labels and mark-downs, connected to the till system so the price on the label and the price at the till match.

Branch set-up with remote management

The same set-up in every branch, centrally managed and monitored, with pre-configured spares so a fault is a swap rather than a day of downtime.

Ordering

How you buy it from us

The same device can be ordered anywhere. What comes with it differs, and that is where the money and the time sit.

  • Buy or rentFor equipment that lasts years, buying is usually better value; with fluctuating numbers or a season, renting is calmer. The same equipment either way — the choice is about your situation and not about the product.
  • Delivered ready to useConfigured, registered in management and tested before it ships. At larger volumes sorted per site or per user and delivered straight to the address.
  • Warranty and replacement handledWe handle the warranty instead of sending you to a service number, and we track which serial number sits where and when cover ends. Where downtime costs money directly, we supply pre-configured spares.
  • The old equipment goes back with usCollected, wiped to the standard and disposed of with certification, and you get the certificate. That belongs to the lifecycle and not to a separate job afterwards.

Lead time depends on the model and on the manufacturer. We quote the term the manufacturer gives and report it the moment it shifts, rather than naming a date that sounds good. Call +31 85 060 9347 or email info@itproposal.com.

Frequently asked

Questions we get about this

The ones that come up most, answered briefly.

Do you supply the payment terminal as well?

The terminal comes from your payment provider. We make sure it has a connection that stays up and is separated from the guest network, and we supply and manage the rest of the set-up.

What happens when a till fails on a Saturday?

For branches we work with pre-configured spares, so a fault is a swap rather than a day of downtime. In the Netherlands and Belgium someone can attend on site; what exactly has been agreed sits in the service agreement.

Tell us what you need, we work it out

Quantity, use and where it has to go. The model follows from that, and the quote follows from the model — with the lead time the manufacturer is giving at that moment.
