The OptiPlex is Dell’s business desktop line. At a fixed workplace it is cheaper, quicker to replace and easier to manage than a laptop — and where equipment gets dirty or hot it is often the only sensible answer.
When an OptiPlex fits better than a laptop
Four situations in which a fixed workplace is a choice rather than a step backwards.
- The workplace is sharedShift work, reception, production: the device stays and the user changes. A desktop is then sturdier, cheaper and easier to replace than a laptop that belongs to nobody.
- Computing power is neededFor the same money a desktop delivers more performance, and it can sustain it without getting hot. For design, calculation and image work that is noticeable.
- The environment is harshDust, heat, vibration. A desktop is easier to clean and cool, and a failed component can be replaced without swapping the whole machine.
- The device must not leave the buildingWhere data may not leave the premises, a fixed workplace is a control rather than a restriction — and it is easier to defend than a policy about laptops.

About the size of a book, mountable behind the screen. For reception desks, consulting rooms and anywhere the desk has to stay clear. Limited expansion, and usually that is no objection.
OptiPlex Small Form Factor
The middle road: small enough to sit under a desk and big enough for an extra card or drive. The most chosen build.
OptiPlex Tower
For workplaces with heavy applications or many connections. Also the build that lasts longest, because components can be replaced inside it.
OptiPlex All-in-One
Computer and screen in one, with a single cable to the wall. For workplaces where appearance counts: reception, showroom, consulting room.
How you buy it from us
The same device can be ordered anywhere. What comes with it differs, and that is where the money and the time sit.
