Buying a Dell business laptop
Buying a business laptop is a different decision from buying a laptop. You are not buying one but a series, you manage it for years, and most of the cost sits after the purchase.
Four things that only start to count after the purchase
None of them appears on a web shop’s product page, and together they decide what a laptop really costs.
- How long the same model stays availableConsumer models change every quarter. For a fleet that means a new image, new drivers and new docks with every order. Business series stay the same for far longer.
- Where the repair happensAt the desk or shipped away. With one laptop that is annoying; with a hundred it is a scheduling problem. On-site warranty is nearly always the cheaper choice across a fleet.
- Whether it can configure itselfBusiness models can be enrolled into management from the factory. The user unboxes and signs in; no action from IT is involved.
- What it is worth when it leavesBusiness models hold residual value and can be sold or traded in after three to four years, provided the data has been demonstrably wiped. We supply that certificate.
Which kind of work asks for which laptop
Start with the work rather than the model. In practice these four profiles cover almost any organisation.
Latitude 3000 or 5000 — office work
Browser, email, office software, video calls. The 5000 series is the most chosen because it has the widest range of ports and lasts for years.
Latitude 7000 — on the road
Lighter and longer on a battery, for people who carry it every day. The premium sits in weight and screen, not in speed.
Precision — computation and design
Workstations for CAD, simulation, video and analysis, with professional graphics and certification from the software vendor.
Latitude Rugged — outdoors and on the factory floor
For work in dust, rain, cold or vibration. More expensive to buy and cheaper in the place where an ordinary laptop does not last two years.
How you buy it from us
The same device can be ordered anywhere. What comes with it differs, and that is where the money and the time sit.
- Buy or rentFor equipment that lasts years, buying is usually better value; with fluctuating numbers or a season, renting is calmer. The same equipment either way — the choice is about your situation and not about the product.
- Delivered ready to useConfigured, registered in management and tested before it ships. At larger volumes sorted per site or per user and delivered straight to the address.
- Warranty and replacement handledWe handle the warranty instead of sending you to a service number, and we track which serial number sits where and when cover ends. Where downtime costs money directly, we supply pre-configured spares.
- The old equipment goes back with usCollected, wiped to the standard and disposed of with certification, and you get the certificate. That belongs to the lifecycle and not to a separate job afterwards.
Lead time depends on the model and on the manufacturer. We quote the term the manufacturer gives and report it the moment it shifts, rather than naming a date that sounds good. Call +31 85 060 9347 or email info@itproposal.com.

Questions we get about this
The ones that come up most, answered briefly.
What is the difference between a business and a consumer laptop?
Mostly what happens after the purchase: the same model stays available far longer, repair happens at the desk instead of being shipped away, and the device can enrol itself into management from the factory. With one laptop you do not notice; with a hundred it decides the cost.
Do business laptops hold residual value?
Yes, and after three to four years they can be sold or traded in, provided the data has been demonstrably wiped. We supply that certificate when we collect the equipment.
Tell us what you need, we work it out
Quantity, use and where it has to go. The model follows from that, and the quote follows from the model — with the lead time the manufacturer is giving at that moment.
