Microsoft 365 backup, because Microsoft does not
Microsoft makes sure the platform keeps running, not that your data comes back. A deleted mailbox, a wiped SharePoint folder or a file encrypted months ago falls outside what a thirty-day recycle bin covers. A separate backup closes that gap.
Four gaps Microsoft does not cover

- The recycle bin expiresBy default deleted material stays for thirty to ninety days. What is missed later is gone, and that is usually exactly when it is missed.
- Deletion by an employeeA departing colleague tidying up their folder is doing something permitted. There is no fault and therefore no alert.
- Encryption that syncs alongIf a file is encrypted on a laptop, that version syncs neatly on to OneDrive and SharePoint. The cloud copies the damage with it.
- A licence that lapsesWhen a licence expires the mailbox attached to it disappears. In a reorganisation or a takeover that is the day someone notices.
