- Sitting with directors and IT leads: understanding the current situation before having an opinion about it.
- Backing choices with what you measured, and writing down the assumptions underneath them.
- Producing a plan that is executable by the people who are there, not by the team that ought to be there.
- Saying something is not needed, even when it would bring work in. That is why a next assignment comes.
What you bring
Not a shopping list. This is what actually counts.
- Enough technology to know when you are being spun a line, and enough distance not to disappear into it.
- Being able to write. A report nobody reads is a report that does not exist.
- Arithmetic. Advice without a sum is an opinion, and boards have enough opinions.
- The patience to listen first. The question on the table is rarely the question underneath it.
Where you land
ITproposal was founded in 2019 and works from Amsterdam, Antwerp and Karaman. Some of our people work in our own teams, others are placed with a client. Either way the same holds: you are reachable, you write down what you did, and you explain in plain language what is going on.
On critical services support runs 24/7, on a rota rather than on a private mobile. Working outside office hours happens according to that rota, not because there is nobody else.

How much technology is left in it?
More than at a consultancy and less than in administration. You do not build yourself, but you do have to be able to keep asking down to the level where something is true or false — otherwise you write down what the supplier said. In practice that means: you read a configuration, you understand a measurement, and you know which question to put to an engineer. If you want to let go of the technology entirely this fits you less well; if you only want to do the technology, likewise.
Will I work at ITproposal or at a client?
Both happen. Some of our people work in our own teams, others are placed with a client, sometimes for a few months and sometimes for years. Which you prefer is something we discuss in the first conversation, because it is a real difference: on placement you see more environments, in an in-house team you build on the same thing for longer.
I cannot do everything listed. Is it worth applying?
Yes. The list above describes the role at its broadest and nobody ticks all of it. What we look at is what you have done, how you approach a problem and whether you can explain what you did. What you do not know yet can be learned; how you deal with people when something is broken is much less so.
